Celebrate the Wins, Big and Small: The Secret to Staying Motivated

Celebrate the Wins, Big and Small: The Secret to Staying Motivated

By Stephanie Chilton -

Of course we all celebrate the big wins - a milestone birthday, a new job, a promotion, the end of a major project.

But sometimes they are few and far between. Big wins can be years in the making! How can we stay motivated in the meantime?

That’s where the little wins come in!

Life is made up of countless smaller victories that often go unnoticed. Did you finish a tough workout? Handle a challenging conversation with grace? Stick to your plan to drink more water this week? Those moments deserve acknowledgment too.

Mindset, Momentum, Motivation

Celebrating small wins rewires your brain for positivity, shifting your focus from what didn’t get done to what did. This mindset can build momentum and motivate you to keep moving forward. Each win—no matter how small—tells you that you’re capable, resilient, and making progress.

Be Your Own Cheerleader!

By this stage in life, you’ve likely overcome your share of challenges. You’ve learned, adapted, and grown in ways that deserve recognition. This is your reminder: don’t wait for someone else to pat you on the back. Take the lead and celebrate yourself.

Celebrate every day

Here’s how to make celebrating wins a part of your life:

  1. Keep a Gratitude Journal: Write down one thing you achieved each day, no matter how minor.
  2. Share Your Wins: Tell a friend or loved one about what you’re proud of—it makes the moment feel even more special.
  3. Reward Yourself: Treat yourself to something you enjoy, whether it’s a bubble bath, a favorite snack, or a new book.
  4. Pause and Reflect: Take a moment to savor the feeling of accomplishment. The more you do it, the more automatic it becomes.

We keep a family notebook of wins! It lives on the kitchen table in full view where we can remind each other to add to it. We add anything and everything, big or small.

Celebrating wins isn’t about boasting or being overly self-indulgent—it’s about recognizing the value in your efforts and honoring yourself. Remember, every step forward matters. Whether you’re conquering a mountain or simply making it through a busy day, give yourself the credit you deserve. You’ve earned it.

So here’s to you: your wins, your journey, and everything you’re becoming. Let’s celebrate!
