Do you ever feel like you’re just having the worst day? Or like everything has gone wrong in your life all at once? Or like your whole life is messed up and you never had a chance?
When one thing goes wrong, our minds can latch onto that and get carried away. Oh no, I’ve dropped my phone. The screen is smashed. It’s going to cost a fortune to replace ... I don’t have the money. This is the worst day ever! I burnt my toast, I’m late for my appointment and now I’ve smashed my phone. What’s gonna be next? I wish I’d never got out of bed!
Assuming your thoughts don’t have you running for the safety of your duvet, you probably will go on to have the worst day ever as your mind hungrily seeks each new catastrophe to confirm its diagnosis that this is indeed the worst day ever.
What if, instead, you notice your mind deciding that this is the worst day ever? And then you tell yourself, yes it’s annoying that a bad thing happened, but that doesn’t mean that more bad things will follow. Maybe the rest of the day will be great, or even just okay.
Well, then you’d be living mindfully! And that can help you to take back control.
In order to live mindfully, you need to learn to notice your own thoughts, accept them, and then choose better ones. And that’s where meditation comes in.
Mindful meditation encourages self-awareness and acceptance, helping you to recognize and manage difficult emotions without judgement. Meditation offers a safe space to cultivate inner calm and resilience.
